Frequently Asked Questions

What is TRITON

TRITON is a prototype PC/Windows-based software environment for the analysis of bistatic underwater acoustic detection systems in noise and reverberation conditions. The purpose of this prototype is  to demonstrate several of the design and implementation capabilities of the wave propagation group of IACM/FORTH. TRITON's capabilities can be extended in various directions depending on the particular interest/request  of potential buyers.

Who has developed TRITON

TRITON is an internal project of the wave propagation group of IACM/FORTH. The group has long experience in the field of underwater acoustic propagation modeling using geometric and wave-theoretic methods, as well as in underwater acoustic applications and their analysis, in particular ocean acoustic tomography, detection and localization. Recent activities include design and analysis of a large-scale tomography experiment in the Arctic Ocean (DAMOCLES), as well as the development of an integrated software environment (CALYPSO) for the analysis of passive and active monostatic underwater acoustic detection systems for the Hellenic Navy. The group has produced a large number of scientific publications and is also active in organizing international conferences, schools and advanced courses in the field of underwater acoustics.

Can TRITON's capabilities be extended

Although a prototype, TRITON  can be used as a standalone software product for bistatic prediction performance. However the purpose of this prototype version is  to demonstrate several of the design and implementation capabilities of the wave propagation group of IACM/FORTH.  In fact TRITON capabilities can be extended in various directions depending on the particular interest/request  of potential buyers. For example TRITON could be extended to support active monostatic detection, passive detection (broadband and LOFAR), a larger set of  operational parameters (including support of arbitrary shaped receiving arrays) and so on.

How can I get a free TRITON evaluation CD

A free evaluation CD is  availble containing the latest version of TRITON. The evaluation version has neither time limits nor number of access limits, although several key operations have been disabled. To get your free evaluation CD send us a brief statement of interest  along with your name, affiliation and postal address.

How can I buy TRITON and how much does it cost

TRITON prototype can be either evolved to a standalone product (sitll needs documentation and integrity checks ) or be customised and/or extended  according to the needs of a potential customer. If you are interested in either possibility please contact us for further discussion.
